A Visit To The Stones

Visiting Stonehenge: A Unique Experience on Your Journey from Kent to Cornwall

If you're travelling from Kent to Cornwall, a stop at Stonehenge could be considered a must. This iconic prehistoric monument is conveniently located about halfway through your journey, making it an ideal break.

Enjoy Stonehenge for Free

You can view the magnificent stones from a distance without spending a penny, although I believe that if you're not an English Heritage member, you may have to pay for parking. While many visitors opt to pay for closer access, the difference is minimal. I found that the view from a few extra meters closer didn't significantly enhance the experience, in fact, you can end up too close to such a colossal subject. For those willing to splurge, there are options to be escorted into the centre of the circle, catering to those who want a more exclusive experience.

Tips for Your Stonehenge Visit

When planning your visit to Stonehenge, keep these two tips in mind:
1. **Skip the Ticket Purchase**: The free viewing area allows you to capture stunning photos with your mobile phone camera. You won't miss much by not paying for closer access.
2. **Walk from the Visitor Centre**: Avoid taking the bus to the stones unless you have mobility issues. Walking to Stonehenge not only offers breathtaking scenery but also enhances the overall atmosphere of your visit. The journey on foot feels like a pilgrimage, adding to the significance of this ancient site.

By following these tips, you can make the most of your Stonehenge experience without breaking the bank. Enjoy your journey!

Stay Dry

Don't let rain soul your walk. There's an old Swedish saying which roughly translated means: "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes." Click on the image to get yourself done waterproofs.
